Meet the MDG summer 2021 interns

This summer, MDG welcomed its largest group of interns to date. This group was a mix of local high school and college students, each eager to gain real world experience working on real projects and gaining guidance as they pursue their degrees. These students brought a lot of energy and each individual has done an amazing job learning and growing as part of our team. We are excited to watch them continue on their paths to successful careers.

We are proud to introduce our summer 2021 interns!

Alex Bolt

I am currently in my fourth year at the University of North Florida pursuing my Bachelor of Civil Engineering. I am interested in construction management and civil engineering, as well as how they interact with each other during the developmental process. At Matthews Design Group, I work on design and quality assurance/quality check. Outside of work, I enjoy going exploring trails and building 3D models.

Alex Marty

I am a rising third-year Civil Engineering student at the University of Florida. I enjoy learning about how different parties interact prior to and during the construction process. I am also interested in the transportation side of Civil Engineering and how it will be impacted by the introduction of self-driving cars. In my free time, I enjoy going to the beach, reading, and hanging out with friends and family.

Alexandria Garside

I am going into my Senior year pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering at the University of North Florida. Civil Engineering piqued my interest because there are so many different fields I can go into. I am currently out of the office interested in learning more about Structural, Architectural & Transportation Engineering as I further my educational career and intern experience. Throughout my years at UNF, I have been a member of Alpha Chi Omega, participating in many philanthropic and community service events and held an Executive Officer position. Outside of school and work, I enjoy spending time at the beach, exercising & exploring the outdoors.

I am starting my second year of college at UNF studying civil engineering. During high school I participated in an engineering academy where I learned and was certified in AutoCAD, Revit, and Inventor. I am extremely interested in learning more about grading and pipes. I like to spend time with my friends, go to concerts, and play videogames.

Kyle Sowards

I am a rising 5th year at Florida State University pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Growing up around construction I have always enjoyed watching a piece of land develop into usable space for the surrounding community. Outside of school and work I enjoy watching sports and spending time with my friends and family.

Luke Asuncion

I am a 3rd year at the University of Florida pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. I chose to study Civil Engineering because I want to create and maintain the infrastructure that supports society. I also love learning about practical applications of math and physics. In my free time I like to go to the gym, and play table tennis and chess.

Rushton Roberts

I am a rising 4th year at University of North Florida, pursuing a Civil Engineering degree. I spent the first three years of my college career at Colorado State University playing football. I enjoy engineering because I believe watching a tangible creation as a result of your own efforts and intuition is the most rewarding form of work. Outside of engineering, I enjoy fishing, wakeboarding, and spending time with my wife.

I’ve been with MDG since the summer of 2018 when I graduated High School, and I can’t begin to thank them for all the things I’ve learned. There’s only so much you can gather from a textbook!

I'm currently in my 3rd year of my Civil Engineering degree at UNF. Due to COVID, the last year of classes were online which made it difficult. But I'm so excited to be back in person this Fall! I've been with MDG since the summer of 2018 when I gradated High School, and I can't begin to thank them for all the things I've learned. There's only so much you can gather from a textbook! Outside of working and studying, I mostly spend my time catching up with friends, or reading a good mystery book!

Sydney Rodriguez

I am a rising junior at Allen D. Nease High School. I will be entering my 3rd year in the Stellar Academy of engineering at Nease. I found an interest in engineering because I am excellent at math and visual arts. Currently, I am doing my first ever internship at Matthews Design Group as a high school student. My hobbies that I love to do are drawing, running (fun fact: I ran 13.1 miles), playing video games, and cuddling with my cat.

Travis Fiacco

I am going into my senior year of study at the University of North Florida in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. I settled on Civil Engineering as a major because it has the ability to cover multiple different aspects such as Environmental and Coastal Engineering, both of which had gained my interest early in my college career. Outside of work and school, my most prominent hobbies are hunting, fishing, or just about anything else that gets me outside.
