Wil Sherman
As a senior at the University of Florida pursuing a bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, I am starting my third summer internship at Matthews | DCCM. Throughout my time here at Matthews, I have had the opportunity to develop and refine construction plans, assist with field inspections, and collaborate in team environments to overcome real-world design challenges. The hands-on experience I have gained with Matthews has given me an authentic and well-rounded understanding of my chosen career path, and I couldn't be more excited about what's to come. My passion for Civil Engineering was inspired by my father's career, and I am proud to follow in his footsteps. Outside my professional and academic endeavors, I enjoy surfing, motorcycle stunt riding, and fishing.
Grant Fortner
I am a rising third year at FSU pursuing a Civil Engineering degree. I chose to study Civil Engineering because it is so diverse in that there are so many specialties I can choose from within it. Personally, I’m more interested in the construction and environmental side of it. So far, I’ve been learning how to use Civil 3D here at Matthews | DCCM and it’s awesome! I haven’t been able to find any other opportunities willing to help teach me the qualifications I will need for my job after school, so Matthews | DCCM has given me a unique opportunity. Besides engineering, my interests consist of sports, lifting, hunting, and music.
Lauren Castillo
I am going into my second year at the University of North Florida where I am studying Civil Engineering. I started interning with Matthews | DCCM this summer, and it has been an invaluable experience so far. I am enjoying the opportunity to be able to apply my background knowledge & CAD skills to my field of interest. Outside of my education, I enjoy reading, swimming, and spending time with my loved ones.
Noah Smith
I am a rising sophomore at UNF pursuing a Civil Engineering degree. My decision to study Civil Engineering is my fascination of creation. I hope to be a part of this team to bring my ideas to fruition. I love my role as an intern learning Civil 3D at Matthews | DCCM. Besides engineering, my interests include sports like soccer, basketball, and football. I also love working on cars, indulging in great conversation, and hanging out with friends.
Ian Fish
In the fall I will be a first year Civil Engineering Major at the University of Central Florida. This is my second-year interning at Matthews | DCCM and have had so much fun working here. Outside of work, I coach the neighborhood summer swim team, listen to music, play occasional video games, and recently started picking up the guitar.
Tyler Gunther
I graduated from Creekside High School, and I will be attending the University of Florida in the fall. I started learning Civil 3D in high school, but interning at Matthews | DCCM has given me a unique opportunity to become very familiar with this software, and to practice applying the engineering mindset. I’m very lucky to have this opportunity to work on real-world projects as a high school student, and the experience I’ve gained here will be invaluable as I continue my education and career. Outside of engineering, I enjoy spending time outdoors and playing guitar.
Thomas Handley
I am a 2024 graduate from Pedro Menendez High School where I had taken part in both the Academy of Business and the Academy of Architectural & Building Sciences. I have been interning with Matthews I DCCM since the beginning of my senior year and I can say it has greatly succeeded with applying engaging experiences in the field of engineering. I have always had an interest in design and my time spent with Matthews I DCCM has helped guide me to how I might take this interest onward. Outside of work and school, hobbies of mine consist of soccer, bowling, kayaking, cooking, listening to music, playing video games, and hanging out with family & friends.
Braden Forrest
I am a rising senior at Christ’s Church Academy and this is my first year interning with Matthews | DCCM. I spent the last three years interning in the survey and estimating departments of a large regional civil contractor. I plan to attend the University of Florida, University of Alabama, or Auburn University to study Civil Engineering. I aspire to be a Civil Engineer because I would love to design and shape how the world around us looks. Outside of school/work, I like to play basketball, fish, jet ski, and go to the beach.
Robie Matthews
I am going into my Senior year at St. Joseph’s Academy, and this is my second year interning with Matthews | DCCM. I have an interest in engineering because it is awesome to see something that you create on a computer with CAD come to life in the form of a real, tangible, building or project. In addition, many members of my family are engineers. Outside of work or school, hobbies I enjoy are participating in World War II reenactments, reading about history, playing tennis, and hanging out with friends.
Soroush Mahdiar
I am a rising senior and I am in the Academy of Engineering & Environmental Sciences at Creekside High School. I’m exploring my options in terms of what discipline of engineering I’d like to study, and Matthews | DCCM has made civil much more compelling. I find it fascinating to learn about the logic behind civil engineering principles, like the grading of a road to drain rainwater, and then later see them applied to the real world. I also enjoy playing soccer, weightlifting, skateboarding, listening to music, and camping.
Matthews | DCCM offers flexible, year-round engineering internships for both college and high school students, providing invaluable hands-on experience to complement classroom education. Balancing academic commitments with professional development, our program immerses interns in real-world projects, fostering growth through mentorship and collaboration with municipalities, sub-consultants, and engineering firms. This comprehensive exposure helps interns gain a thorough understanding of industry intricacies and forge important connections, preparing them for successful careers in engineering.
