St. Augustine, Florida
Matthews Design Group (MDG) engineered the construction plans for this unique project located on a partially developed 2.89-acre parcel on highway U.S. 1 in St. Augustine. This 25,000 square-foot shopping center development serves as the new home for Diane’s Marketplace, a business serving Northeast Florida for over 30 years, and other tenants such as the Tijuana Flats food chain.
Given this project was a modification of a previously constructed, unrelated facility, MDG completed an asset inventory and assessment of the existing stormwater, water, and wastewater infrastructure. Based on this inventory, MDG determined what portions it could incorporate into the new design, and what portions would require replacement. The required design changes included a redesign and relocation of a lift station owned by the city of St. Augustine. Offsite utility improvements within the U.S. 1 right-of-way included an extension spanning 115 feet of 6-inch watermain and 380 feet of 8-inch watermain installed by horizontal directional drilling.
MDG facilitated negotiations with the city for the lift station changes, and secured all permits required by city and state agencies. These included the city of St. Augustine, St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD), Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
