Nocatee Trailhead Park
Ponte Vedra beach, FLorida
Matthews Design Group (MDG) completed engineering and design for a 4.7-acre trailhead park in Nocatee near Ponte Vedra. The park serves as a parking and picnic area for users — including equestrians — of the Nocatee Greenway Trail system. In Phase one, MDG designed a park area including picnic facilities, educational pavilion, restrooms, parking, and a washout area for horse trailers. In Phase two, MDG designed and permitted 8,400 linear feet of Greenway Trail to accommodate pedestrians, bikers, and golf carts.
In a separate project, MDG completed engineering, design, and permitting of drainage improvements for a 3.5-mile section of the trail. This work involved replacement of several culverts and installation of headwalls, a means to armor the slopes to prevent erosion. MDG secured permits from the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) for these improvements.
