tag! Children's Museum of St. Augustine
St. Augustine, FLorida
Matthews Design Group (MDG) is completing engineering and site design for tag! Children’s Museum of St Augustine, a new learning and cultural institution in St. Johns County near the historic city of St. Augustine in Northeast Florida. This new facility will provide educational and social opportunities for children and families, and will house multiple galleries, classrooms, an exhibits. The museum will be constructed on approximately 2.3 acres of primarily forested land as part of a larger 4.0-acre. The new museum will comprise associated roadways, a 1.3 acre Visitor Entry/Parking Area, and a 1 acre Discovery Wing. The Discovery Wing comprises 6,280 square-feet divided across two separate buildings as well as a series of outdoor garden and play spaces, totaling approximately 30,000 square-feet. These buildings and gardens will be connected by a network of raised walkways and decking areas, that minimizes the impact on the existing trees that populate the site. The entire 4.0-acre museum will be developed over a series of phases, with several additional future buildings, eventually housing the Exploration and Innovation Wings, providing an additional 25,000 – 30,000 square-feet of indoor exhibit space and over 25,000 square-feet of additional outdoor gardens and play space. The project’s scope of work included a conceptual site plan, construction plans, and permitting services. Construction plan elements comprised demolition, grading, and utility plans. MDG also prepared a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) for the site. As part of its permitting services, MDG secured all permits required by county and state agencies.
